Barefoot Running

For a few months now I have been experimenting with barefoot running, a trend that seems to be catching some steam in the running community. Over the weekend, I found myself reverting back to my old heel-striking form which has caused me to get injured again. Today, I wanted to introduce you to some of the basic principals of this philosophy and what I have learned so far. Hopefully, you will be intreagued by the idea as well and Id love to hear your thoughts.

I read Born to Run and really enjoyed it! I now own the 5 fingers and am slowly getting used to them. Thanks for the insight into barefoot running, there is a lot of info out there on it and I am trying to just soak it all up.

Thx tmanrpg1! Hopefully I’ll be a bit more succinct going forward with my explainations. My advice would be #1, go slow and don’t tryto do too much too fast. And #2, check out ChiRunning[dot]com for some tips on proper form which will be the only way to really go barefoot. Good luck!!! — Marc

I tore my lisfranc in Jan 09. I had to get a screw across my foot. The screw came out about 8 months ago. That being said, I am committed to using the barefoot/chi style form, even if it is at a snails pace, and bit by bit I feel certain it will strengthen the ligaments and muscles and I will be able to pick up some speed.

My podiatrist had me buy top dollar running shoes which are one big unstable cushion if you ask me.

Again, many thanks for the concise explanation.
