Here is my update:
I have gained understanding upon the multiple genre-label issue. MP3 songs have tags (obviously), which allows the listener to see the name of the song and its artist. Well, 1 tag has two pages (figuratively speaking): ID3v1 and ID3v2 – at least this is what you will see if you hit the VIEW FILE INFO – Alt+3 option while using Winamp (which is the only player that satisfies me). Both “pages” of the tag: ID3v1 & ID3v2, must have the EXACT SAME information if you use Winamp to upload your files.
If ID3v1 tag says:
Title: Velonica
Artist: Aqua Timez
Genre: Anime
While ID3v2 tag says:
Title: Velonica
Artist: Aqua Timez
Genre: Soundtrack
Then you will see this one song listed twice as though it is a totally different song only because the genres on the tag’s pages differ. Furthermore, editing your tags (while using Winamp) when the songs have been uploaded onto this particular device is an absolute “no no”. Unfortunately, you will see the same issue. The old information for the song will still be listed as well as new info you’ve edited. To solve this problem, I worked on the ID3v2 tag 1st then, hit the “Copy to ID3v1″ button once all info on page 2 has been filled in. This is immensely important if you use genres that do not exist within the Winamp database. Like for instance for any Anime/Game music, I have the genre listed as BGM, but BGM does not exist within Winamp’s database. So the copy tag button must be hit, and it’ll leave your ID3v1 tag blank in the genre field – don’t be alarmed because that is how it should look if Winamp doesn’t recognize the genre after you’ve hit the copy button.
I know all this sounds crazy, but I’m a neat freak: a place for everything, and everything in its place. I hope this will clear up what I’ve written previously. All in all, I really enjoy my new player. I purchased it for the extra space for songs. My previous 8GB was no longer satisfying.
I hope this has helped. Sorry if I have confused someone – not my intention ^_^;
I’m keeping my rating as a 3 star because there is something that just bugs me (more than the tag issue): When you scroll down below the picture of the song you have:
Artist: Queen
Album: Greatest Hits I
Genre: Classic Rock
Year: 1981
Well, on the S700I had, I could highlight anything below the picture like: the year for instance, and I’d be directed to all songs listed on the player under the year of 1981 upon hitting the play/pause button, but this player does not have that technology – very disappointing since that is one of the features I enjoyed most about the S700 *sighs*
This is what I’d written upon receiving my MP3 Player:
I’ve given this a 3 because now that I have the S545-red, I realize how completely spoiled I was on the 700. The 700 has the DSEE surround sound, and this one doesn’t. The 700 has multiple sound styles to choose from such as: None, Studio, Matrix, Club, Arena, Live, Karaoke (I may have forgotten other options) on top of the Equalizer adjust table, and this one doesnt!! >< This one does have the same equalizer table, but just not the sound styles for an extra boost. The S545 sounds great with my Sony MDR-G74's, but not with my NC22 Sound Canceling ear-buds (do not get them, please - not for this player). I've always been picky about sound since I was a child and a wiz at setting an equalizer table since then as well, so you all can trust me on the warning of those headphones.
I haven’t watched any videos on it as of yet, so I can’t review that feature at the moment.
Anyway, I’ll update this as soon as I can figure out my problem…
And the problem that I have with this player (versus what I did not have with the NWZ-S700F series – I believe mine was an S718F) is that the genres aren’t grouping together into a singular title as they should. For instance when you go to the ‘Genre’ option you’ll normally see one option for let’s say Alternative. Well, not on this player, I’ve got 3 (if not more) Alternative options to choose from as though each word that says “Alternative” has some type of typo in it, which it does not. I’ve double and triple checked, but I can’t seem to have all of my Gospel music under one option, and so forth with the rest of the music genres I listen to.
The only thing that I can think of that causes this to be is that: before I had given away my previous Sony mp3 player, which was so awesome (S700F series), I had copied and pasted the MUSIC folder from the 700 to my PC’s hard drive, and the files had already undergone conversion from mp3 to AAC mp4 when I had initially uploaded them to my old player, so I’m thinking that I may have to go through my WHOLE crate of data CDs with all of my music in their original mp3 format & re-upload from there to see all of my music the way I would like. Just so you all understand what it looks like in case I haven’t explained clearly, I’ll show ya:
(I hit Genre for the drop menu and this is what I see)
80′s Pop
Alternative
Asian
BGM
Classical
Gospel
BGM
BGM
80′s Pop
Gospel
Gospel
Alternative
Oldies
Pop
Soundtrack

:/ This is just crazy. I’d even abide if I could possibly choose the 2nd Gospel title listed and see ALL of my Gospel artists, but noooooooo! >< Half of the artists for BGM are somewhere under the other BGM title listed. >< ! I'm forced to shuffle on All Songs instead of shuffling through one genre. -_- Furthermore, I upload and organize my songs with Winamp (as I did with my previous player) and I didn't have this problem. The strange thing about this new player is that when I plug in the USB cord to a port and open Winamp to organize my files, all of the genres are singular!!! >_< such an evil trick!!! I even have the same artist listed multiple times with no errors in the spelling. Nor have I found extra blank spaces at the beginning or the ending of the artist's name or genre from accidently spamming the keyboard's spacebar!!! ><

I got a Sony NWZE last year and wanted to replace it after it got stolen and so got this player and had it shipped a long way, only to find out it says made in China at the back. It looks ok but I dont even feel like using it now. The headphones that come with it look rubbish and rough and hurt my ears, unlike the ones that came with the cheaper NWZE.
To my dismay, the Indian reps Amazon have hired to answer queries have refused to take any responsibility for the item’s country of origin. It never occurred to me that there were dodgy Sony players being sold at/through Amazon that were made in dear China, hence I never checked. However, the product description doesnt specify where the players were made anyway.
Word of advice: ask the seller what country the player was made in before you throw your money away.

Purchased NEW 12/01/2009
Problem: After multiple attempts reformatting and updating software and using content transfer sound comes out fine for a little while and then like a CD skipping it hiccups out music.
Scam: MFC-Sony warranty NO cost replacement only good for first 90 days-then 29.99 for a re-furbed unit.
Solution- don’t buy Sony walkman products, guess Apple still kills everything else out there I own two Gen 5 Ipods and no problems

First reason that I decided to buy this product because its long life battery for 42 hours and it is 16GB but I am very dissappoint when used it, battery is too shorter than the old one Sony Walkman 8GB which it claims for 36 hour battery long and I think it is the good one, it made in Malaysia. So when I try to test this new one S545 by switch on to normal level to play mp3 and count time until out of battery, it is only long 16-17 hours. I do not know why? I try not to think because it made in China. But could you please to tell me, how to use it for long to 42 hour battery life? At least 30 hours long is alright.

I bought this for my granddaughter. This is her third MP-3 player. She has gone thru two other brands within a couple of months of purchase. This Sony has made it now for six months and still doing great. I did have some doubt on how long the battery would stay charged. No problems there either. She has it on darn near all of the time and only needs charged a couple times a week. Good product.
